Hospital Foundation Kicks 125th Anniversary Campaign
The Wayne County hospital is celebrating 125 years of history in the community it serves.
On Thursday, the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting marking the beginning of Wayne UNC Health Care’s 125th anniversary celebration.

For 125 years, the rooms and hallways of the hospital’s many locations have been filled with the sounds of joyous new beginnings and heartfelt goodbyes.

From its humble beginnings over a horse stable at the corner of Center and Mulberry streets in 1896 to the grand medical facility that now overlooks Wayne Memorial Drive, the Wayne County hospital has served its community for 125 years.

The local hospital is preparing to celebrate its quasquicentennial.
Wayne UNC Hospital turns 125 years old this year.
Tuesday morning, the Wayne County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing Wayne UNC’s 125th anniversary as read by Dr. Jessie Tucker, President and CEO of Wayne UNC Health Care.
